Final Days

May 30, 2007

Dr. Joe performs the weekly checkup

So, we are into the final days. June is almost here and Melissa keeps telling us that ... well, lets just say she is getting excited ;) And we are all excited. Joe keeps saying "Baby out!" ... not sure if he knows the baby is due or if he just wants to play ... or is it more of an instruction? ... What we do know is that when we ask if he wants to have the baby at home he shakes his head and says "nope" ... too funny. He is going to make a great big brother.

He shocked us by helping the doctor do Melissa's check-up exam. Helped ... ha ... he took the doppler heartbeat monitor from the doctor, turned it on, climbed up on Melissa's lap, placed it on her belly, found the baby, and held it there until the heartbeat was recorded, turned it off and returned it to the offended doc, she thought she was out of a job!!!!. See he does care! (Guess the simulators do help?)

These last days though ... well, they have felt like the last days. Before I headed to California all three of us were sick ... really sick ... don't recommend it. Then, while I was gone, Melissa had a short return of the bug ... but Joe took great care of her. Even tried to take her mind off things by teaching her the alphabet ... though, I don't think she was in the mood. Then this first weekend back, Memorial Weekend ... 4 days off, well ... I had a nasty cold that kept us from getting out and enjoying it. Now, Joe is running a fever ... after all these months without being really sick, we hit the jackpot.

But ... Joe is a trooper and still fighting to play and watch hockey as the season winds down ... even while running a fever of 102+. Curious how he is going to take a full summer without hockey? Guess we are just going to have to get out and go skating ... and finish those nets before Kurt and Kari come into town ... Brendan, do you want to come? We need someone to shoot pucks at :) (Oh ... see Joe, siblings can be so much fun!)

May 23, 2007

As my trip to California comes to a close I thought I would post a "hi" from the west coast. I was out here at the AUA bumping shoulders with the docs of urology. Huge show ... stats should about 9000 people, so the drug companies were out in force. (Sorry ... no pictures)

For me the time was actually quite relaxing. Except for a few bugs and a development issues we saw during our demos things ran smooth. The evening were spent watching TV and sleeping ... had plans .. big plans ... yea ... I slept :)

Anyways ... leave in minutes, so farewell from the west coast.

Milestone week

May 11, 2007

As Melissa enters her final stages of her incubation (we are now into weekly doctor visits) we wanted to reflect on a couple other milestone moments. In a couple weeks it is all going to be about the new - so Joe is squeaking in his last few moments while he can :)

First, Joe put on his shoes while mom was playing on the computer ... only asking her to help tighten the straps. Then Joe let go of my hand and walked down the stairs unassisted - no walls, no bum shuffle, no helping hands. Blew my mind - and then to see him do the leg switch without falling (right leg - step 1, left leg - step 2). Crazy!

Well, I am ready to start again ... how about you?

Joe's 2 year checkup reported him at 35.25" long and 26 lbs -- so he should be around 5'10

Wet in the Sun

May 7, 2007

For Joe's birthday we promised him fun with family and friends. So on Saturday we headed to Orlando to attend Jordan's birthday where we got to spend the day playing with Jordan, Tiffany, and several other of Jordans new friends. Happy Birthday to all three of our little troopers!

And on Sunday ... well, on Sunday we went to Adventure Island for some family time (family including Uncle Krishen of course).

What kind of contraption is this?

One thing we know ... it got you wet!

We soaked in the sun, splashed in the water, and slipped down the slides. The favorite was the endless swimming pool ... otherwise known as the Rambling Bayou (a river channel circling the park). Here Joe would put on his life jacket and just swim along on his own. His smile stretched from ear to ear as he kicked and paddled along - the constant current and bumping tubes was very exciting, but the new found freedom from the life jacket was the bonus.

With 12 month passes to both Adventure Island and Busch Gardens, we plan to have many more of these day trips. Must say, I am looking forward to Father-Son Saturdays... (though, mom + 1 will probably always get invited).

Terrible Twos Cometh

Dino provided entertainment for all

So, Joe had his birthday "party" yesterday with a couple friends. We got chased by dinosaurs and ran around the house, ate tons of food and cake, and enjoyed playing with everyone :) Then came presents ... oh, there were cars, and shoes, and books, and CDs ... and a bulldozer ... and a bike. So the rest of the night was a blast. Then Joe got to sleep in his new bed, oh he is growing up so fast.

The next day he was right back exploring his new treasures ... thanks to everyone, you made Joe's day fantastic.

The pictures are up ... enjoy!

Nice pics!

Funny thing is, when I was buying the hat in San Antonio, I was hoping it wasn't too big. Now I'm hoping it isn't too small!

Happy birthday Joe!!

Playoff Season

May 1, 2007

With hockey on almost every night ... Joe felt he wanted to get into the game ... and the Playstation was not good enough. So instead of breaking windows and wrecking the interior walls Joe and I took it outside.

Oh ... too much fun!
